Command: ERG (Elevation Range Gadget)

ERG (Elevation Range Gadget) Command

Overview
CMI Tools command toolbar ERG
  • ERG stands for “Elevation Range Gadget”.
  • To run: you may type ERG as a command, or find the button highlighted in yellow above.
  • The ERG command allows a user to select a group of polylines and analyze their elevations, calculating the average, median, and standard deviation.  (Circles may also be selected.)
Example

We are given contours with various elevations and would like to design a flattened pad.  Ideally, our flattened pad will have a similar amount of cut (volume of soil removed before building the design) and fill (volume of soil placed before building the design).  We would like to choose an elevation that is likely to have fairly even cut and fill volumes in our region, so we can move our cut soil into the fill regions.

With this Tool
  • The average and median elevations are calculated for polylines of interest (along with the range).
  • The average or median can be a starting point for a flattened design or report creation.
  • High SD numbers may indicate the presence of extreme slopes or bumps.
